126 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Tuesday

The Ministry of Health announces that today, September 14, 2021, two people have died from COVID-19, while 126 are the new cases.

Specifically:

  • Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 534.
  • 103 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 43 are in serious condition. 79.62% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

  • 9 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

  • A total of 28,536 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 126 (positivity rate: 0.44%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 118,216.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • Man, aged 73 years, who ended up on September 13 at Paphos General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 70, who ended up on September 13th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 534, of which:

  • 343 men (64%), and
  • 191 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 103 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 43 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 43 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 23 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 28,536 diagnoses made today, 3,792 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 24,744 by the antigen rapid test method, 126 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 46 cases from 316 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 1,818 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 9 cases from 1,236 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 3 cases from 153 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 15 cases from 5,201 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 46 cases from 19,543 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 264 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 5 samples taken from the tests in closed structures.
