The latest unsuccessful attempt by immigrants to reach the territory of the Republic by boat to Cape Greco, reveals as everything shows "from a seed" and a trafficking ring of these people based in Paphos. A Syrian man was arrested on Thursday night by the Police, following complaints by his compatriots that he was paid for nearly a thousand euros in order to arrange for the transfer of their relatives via Lebanon to Cyprus.

The case reached the Police, after the timely intervention of the Port Police, on August 23rd, in the area of Cape Greco during which two boats with irregular migrants attempting to disembark on the territory of the Republic were stopped. As it appears from the police investigations, among these people were the relatives of the complainants, who after the settlement of the return of the boats and their passengers back to Lebanon, considered that the 31-year-old Syrian deceived them and fled to the Police.

The Syrian complainants reported their 31-year-old compatriot to the authorities that he had received about a thousand euros in order to take all necessary steps to transfer their relatives to Cyprus via Lebanon, which was ultimately not achieved.

The Police proceeded to arrest the 31-year-old and it is now being examined whether he was acting alone or as a member of a network of smugglers of irregular migrants to Cyprus.
