The farmers' fields and crops around Paphos International Airport, are close in recent months to have more... movement from the unit itself. The reason for the unprecedented daily go-come of dozens of rental cars, literally in the fields on the north side of the fenced area of the airport, is as it has been found... GPS with which all cars are now equipped.
The data contained in these road aids seem to record a small rural road which, from the old Limassol-Paphos road, at the height of Acheleia, actually leads to the north side of the Paphos airport fence. Only this road serves for the movement of farmers who cultivate the vast areas surrounding the airport and not the airport itself, since on this side of the airport there is neither an entrance nor an exit.
However, for some reason GPS leads foreign drivers through this road and literally through agricultural areas into the airport fence, where drivers, after realizing the impasse, reverse and leave in search of normal passage to their destination.
This malfunction results in days when there is again increased air traffic at the airport, even traffic jams are recorded in the fields on the north side of the unit, with rental vehicles remaining in front of the fence, drivers trying to realize what is happening and then through reverse speeds and manoeuvring in the fields retrace the rural alley that will take them to the main road to Timi and from there on to the airport boulevard.
