PAPHOS CAROB MILLS 'LOCKED' FOR ACADEMIC USE

Filenews 10 August 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

The public commitment of the President of the Republic at the opening ceremony of the Pafos Innovation Institute on 30 October to the transfer of the historical Carobmills of Paphos to the municipal authority has already taken shape. The transfer from the state to the municipal authority took place as a first stage; the Municipality of Paphos then proceeded to clean up the historic buildings as a second step and now the citizens of Paphos are waiting for the third and most important step, which will be the exact form of their exploitation.

Revealing information of "F" indicates that this exploitation has already been decided and "locked" and concerns the academic sector. In particular, the municipal authority is reported to have already completed contacts and processes with an academic institution for its transfer to Paphos and its operation in this area on The Apostle Paul Avenue.

The procedures have been initiated in recent times at a very rapid pace, since at the end of last November President Anastasiades' commitment that the Council of Ministers decided to grant the historical space for Paphos, in order to benefit from the appropriate exploitation by the municipal authority.  Immediately, following this positive development, the Municipality of Paphos announced an invitation of interest for the removal of metal and other structures from the building complex of Charoymyla, located on Apostolos Pavlos Avenue, a process that was also implemented quickly.

Now, the decisive step is expected soon to be known to civil society as to the final exploitation and promotion of the site, which all indicate that it will be another academic home in the city, after Neapolis University, Alexander College, CDA College and The Pafos Innovation Institute.
