OLD ID CARDS WHICH DO NOT HAVE AN EXPIRY DATE TO BE REMOVED - Replace by 3/8/26

The Department of Population and Migration Records announces that the old types of ID cards, which do not have an expiration date, will be valid until August 3, 2026, when they will be removed. In that regard, holders of identity cards who do not have an expiry date are invited to replace them by 3 August 2026 at the latest.

Abolition is mandatory and a result of EU Regulation 2019/1157 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019, to enhance the security of identity cards of Union citizens and residence documents issued to Union citizens and their family members exercising the right of free movement.

It is stressed that all other types of identity cards, which have an expiration date, continue to be valid until their expiration date.
