A coordinated operation was carried out on Tuesday evening in Chloraka by various sections of the Police for the control of illegalities. As part of the campaign, eight foreign asylum seekers were identified who were in violation of the Ministry of The Interior's decree, while 24 people were also charged with various offences.
According to the Police, eight applicants for international protection were identified in various premises as part of the operation, which violated a Decree of the Ministry of the Interior prohibiting applicants for international protection from residing within the administrative boundaries of the Chlorakas community. All of them were transferred to the Police station, where they were questioned in writing about the case under report and charged in writing for later being called to the Paphos District Court.
The members of the Paphos Police Directorate and the Police Headquarters, with the assistance of officers of the Ministry of Welfare, carried out a coordinated operation in the areas of Emba, Chlorakas, Lemba and Kissonergas.
Nine residences were searched as part of the operation and 52 persons were searched. At the same time, from investigations carried out on 45 vehicles as part of checks, the Police made 24 complaints.
In particular, one person was arrested for stealing a vehicle, two were charged with driving without a driver's licence, two counts of driving without insurance, two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, three counts of driving without inspection, three of driving without a driving licence, two counts of driving with damaged tyres, two counts of driving under the influence of drugs and three more of them were charged with driving without a driving licence. Another complaint was made about a signal violation.
