DR KARAGIANNIS - DELTA ALSO HITS CHILDREN - INCREASE IN HOSPITALISATIONS

 Filenews 6 August 2021

"Parents should not be quiet about the disease of young children by coronavirus," according to study team member Dr. Seuss. Petros Karagiannis.

As reported in Filenews, since the onset of the Delta mutation there has been an increase in hospital admissions and from young children. He stressed that the new strain also hits young people, with many ending up in hospitals.

''Vaccination a well as protection measures protect both young children who cannot be vaccinated, but also vulnerable groups of the population," he said.

Third dose in the elderly

Discussions on the administration of a third dose of the vaccine to the elderly are ongoing and WHO approval is expected, Dr. Saunders said. Karagiannis, stressing that it has been almost 7 months since the elderly have been vaccinated and antibodies have begun to decrease.

Regarding the effectiveness of the third dose, he stressed that some companies have proceeded to update their vaccines to cover the new mutation, better shielding the body.

Unacceptable not to vaccinate nurses

"Nurses need to show respect for the elderly they are called upon to care, they are vulnerable people and their health cannot be compromised," stressed Dr Karagiannis.

Referring to clinical studies on anti-coronavirus drugs, he said the drugs act as therapeutics rather than protective. "They act directly against the virus, but their reckless use will undermine their effectiveness when proper use needs to be made," he stressed.

"To defeat the battle with the virus we need to vaccinate up to 90-95% of the population," he concluded.
