599 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH, SATURDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 7, 2021, one person died of coronavirus, while 599 are new cases. At the same time 285 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 95 are in serious condition (50 are intubated).

  • One person died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 438.
  • 285 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 95 are in serious condition. 90.53% of nurses have no history of vaccination.

  • A total of 61,883 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 599 (positivity rate: 0.97%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 105,593.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Woman, aged 84, who ended up today at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 438, of which:

  • 286 men (65%), and
  • 152 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.1 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 285 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP Hospitals, 95 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 95 patients in serious condition, 50 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 43 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 61,883 diagnoses currently carried out, 7,194 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 54,689 using the antigen rapid test, 599 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 48 cases from 535 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 2,732 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 126 cases out of 3,497 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 30 cases from 278 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 152 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 276 cases from 37,444 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 110 cases from 17,245 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
