598 NEW CASES, THREE DEATHS - TUESDAY

Three people died from COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 429, according to the health ministry's announcement.

According to the ministry, 598 (positivity rate: 0.97%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 103,314.

At the same time, 289 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 98 of whom are in serious condition. 89.28% of nurses have no history of vaccination. A total of 61,589 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Woman, aged 86, who ended up on August 1st at the Old George's Oasis nursing home, Larnaca.
  • Man, aged 77, who ended up on August 2nd at Famagusta General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 69, who ended up on 2 August at Nicosia General Hospital

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 429, of which:

  • 282 men (66%), and
  • 147 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.1 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 289 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 98 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 98 patients in serious condition, 40 are intubated, nine are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 49 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 61,589 diagnoses currently carried out, 9,204 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 52,385 using the antigen rapid test, 598 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 42 cases from 331 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 5 cases from 3,090 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 86 cases out of 5,119 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 326 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 3 cases from 338 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 332 cases from 32,752 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 123 cases from 19,633 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
