573 NEW CASES, THREE DEATHS - Tuesday

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 10 August 2021, three people died from COVID-19 disease, while 573 are new cases. At the same time, 263 patients are hospitalized (87 in serious condition).

Specifically:

- Three people died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 447.

- 263 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 87 of whom are in serious condition. 87.55% of nurses have no history of vaccination.

- A total of 62,555 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

- 573 (positivity rate: 0.92%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 107,001.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Male, aged 60, who ended up on 9 August in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 37, who ended up on 9 August in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.

- Male, aged 85, who ended up today at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 447, of which:

- 292 men (65%), and

- 155 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 263 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospital, 87 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 87 patients in serious condition, 50 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 35 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 62,555 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,364 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 56,191 using the antigen rapid test, 573 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 83 cases from 439 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 10 cases of 2,933 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 102 cases from 2,613 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 226 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 280 cases from 40,862 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 90 cases from 15,329 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 153 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
