420 NEW CASES, THREE DEATHS - Thursday

Another three people have died due to coronavirus while the Ministry of Health announced another 420 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

Specifically:

  • Three people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 470.
  • 208 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 85 are in serious condition. 82.22% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 14 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 48,220 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 420 (positivity rate: 0.87%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 110,518.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • A woman, aged 68, who ended up on August 18th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 63, who ended up on August 18th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 88, who ended up at the age of 18 at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 470, of which:

  • 301 men (64%), and
  • 169 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 208 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 85 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 85 patients who are in serious condition, 45 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 35 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 48,220 diagnoses made today, 6,646 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 41,574 by the antigen rapid test method, 420 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 56 cases from 314 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 15 cases from 3,515 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 76 cases from 2,559 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 12 cases from 202 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 183 cases from 25,793 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 78 cases from 15,781 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 43 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 13 samples taken as part of a check in closed structures.
