Two deaths were announced on Tuesday, August 24, by the Ministry of Health, one of which concerns a man, aged 37, who ended up today at Nicosia General Hospital. The second death concerns a man, aged 77, who died yesterday at Nicosia General Hospital. So far, 486 people have ended up on our island due to the coronavirus, of which 313 men are men (64%), and 173 are women (36%).
According to the announcement today, 355 (positivity rate: 0.68%) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified from molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 112,021.
In detail, the announcement of the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 24, 2021:
- Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 486.
- 184 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 72 are in serious condition. 84.79% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 14 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 52,454 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 355 (positivity rate: 0.68%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 112,021.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- A man, aged 77, who ended up on August 23rd at Nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 37, who ended up today at Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 486, of which:
- 313 men (64%), and
- 173 women (36%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 77 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 184 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 72 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 72 patients who are in serious condition, 35 are intubated, seven are hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 30 are in an Increased Care Unit.
C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 52,454 diagnoses made today, 7,640 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 44,814 by the antigen rapid test method, 355 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 57 cases from 438 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 4 cases from 3,967 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 78 cases from 2,656 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 16 cases from 213 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1 case from 356 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
- 132 cases from 32,494 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 67 cases from 12,320 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
