Another two deaths due to coronavirus announced by the Ministry of Health, while the new cases reached 311.
Specifically:
- Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 477.
- 194 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 70 are in serious condition. 82.48% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 17 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 51,499 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 311 (positivity rate: 0.60%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 111,140.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- A man, aged 81, who ended up on August 20th at Nicosia General Hospital.
- A woman, aged 57, who ended up on August 19th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 477, of which:
- 307 men (64%), and
- 170 women (36%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 77 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 194 patients of the COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 70 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 70 patients who are in serious condition, 37 are intubated, six are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 27 are in an Increased Care Unit.
In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:
C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 51,499 diagnoses made today, 7,368 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 44,131 by the antigen rapid test method, 311 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 32 cases from 334 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 6 cases from 3,457 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 54 cases from 3,315 samples taken through private initiative.
- 4 cases from 125 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 142 cases from 29,577 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 73 cases from 14,554 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 137 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
In detail, the rapid antigen tests through the ministry of health's program were carried out today as follows:
