208 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Sunday

Two people have died from COVID-19, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, bringing the total number of deaths to 499.

At the same time, 208 (positivity rate: 0.69%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were announced by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 113,277.

As the announcement states, 157 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 61 are in serious condition. 84.08% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

14 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

A total of 30,027 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • A woman, aged 74, who ended up on August 28th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 87 years, who ended up today at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 499, of which:

  • 323 men (65%), and
  • 176 women (35%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 77 years.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 157 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 61 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 61 patients who are in serious condition, 24 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 34 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 30,027 diagnoses performed today, 5,191 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 24,836 by the antigen rapid test method, 208 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 14 cases from 119 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases from 3,504 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 27 cases from 1,299 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 1 case from 64 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 85 cases from 11,468 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 72 cases from 13,368 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 199 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 6 samples taken in the context of a closed structure check.
