Underwater work is under way from 1 July to highlight the port of Amathus, while work will be carried out on 23 and 24 July to digitally capture it, using a drone.
As stated by a statement from the Department of Antiquities, broadcast by the GIP, "since 1 July underwater work has begun and continues on the emergence of the ancient port of Amathus as part of a European cross-border project under the acronym ANDIKAT".
The project, it is added, aims to promote underwater archaeological and natural heritage through the creation of diving routes in marine protected areas in Greece and Cyprus.
The Communication calls on bathers to be particularly careful and to avoid areas where work is carried out, for which there is appropriate sea marking and warning signs on land.
The public is kindly requested not to move antiquities that may exist on the seabed, or markings placed in the framework of the project, which will continue throughout July.
Finally, the public is informed that on Friday and Saturday, 23 and 24 July 2021, between the hours of 06:30 to 8:30, work will be carried out on the digital capture of the ancient port of Amathus, which will include the unmanned aircraft flight (Drone), which will be flying both the sea area where the ancient port is located and the ground archaeological site. , at the point corresponding to the ancient port.
