An increase in hospitalizations of children with coronavirus at Makarios Hospital has been observed lately, according to the Director of the Paediatric Clinic of the Hospital, Abraham Elias. Speaking to Filenews, he said most of the children hospitalized are infants who got the virus from their close family circle, and specifically people who are unvaccinated in most cases.
Dr Elias also said that in recent days most hospitalizations were recorded, stressing that eight children, who were diseased by coronavirus, had to be hospitalised at the same time, which is attributed to the increase in cases.
At the same time, he said most of the children who were hospitalized were infants who were infected by their close family circle and unvaccinated.
The solution, he pointed out, is vaccination, stressing that he is in favour of vaccination in children 12 years of age and older, as several countries have proceeded to vaccinate children after EMA approval.
At this time, he concluded, five children, three of whom are one month old, are being treated in hospital.
