TOURIST FOUND BURGLAR IN HIS ROOM AND WAS ATTACKED

Filenews 7 July 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

It is not enough that this year Cyprus is looking for tourists with the... binoculars, incidents like yesterday's in Paphos are coming to make the situation even more difficult. A Russian tourist entered the hotel room where he stays to find himself in front of a burglar. And not only that, but when the tourist reacted, the burglar along with two other accomplices wounded him with a knife, fortunately not seriously.

The unacceptable incident occurred in a hotel unit in Kato Paphos where the 50-year-old visitor from Russia is staying.  As he reported to the police, while yesterday he was returning from the beach to his room, as soon as he walked in he found an unknown man, who was looking through his luggage.

At the sight of the room's tenant, the burglar ran towards the balcony door, going out into the street. The Russian pursued him, while finding that there was another unknown man and a female accomplice of the burglar outside the hotel.

The three, when they realized that the tourist was following them, attacked him and slightly wounded him with a knife to the thumb, then disappeared in an unknown direction.

The 50-year-old informed the hotel officials who in turn alerted the Police and Paphos Hospital. An ambulance that arrived at the scene picked up the Russian man and transported him to Paphos Hospital where he received stitches to the wound.

Investigations carried out by the police found that nothing was stolen from the 50-year-old's room, since it appears that the 50-year-old's arrival caught the perpetrator before he started taking stolen goods.

Searches to locate the three perpetrators are ongoing.
