The country's deterioration in the red category of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) also raised alarm bells in the tourism industry. This development, as the Deputy Minister for Tourism admitted yesterday, may also have an impact on tourism, which will be seen in the next few days.
At the same time, it confirms the fluid and ever-changing context of the pandemic, as well as the need to improve the epidemiological image of the country in order to ensure public health and the economy, since tourism is a key pillar of the country's economic activity. Speaking yesterday on ANT1's show, "Day Noon", Savvas Perdios described Cyprus' ranking in the red category of ECDC as a negative development. As a result, he said, while the priority and dominant issue for the sector in recent times have been the decisions of the British and the Russians on flights to Cyprus, the first is to improve the epidemiological picture of Cyprus so that we can get back into the game.
According to Mr Perdios, the application of the European Digital Certificate and the relevant regulation ensure that travel to Cyprus will continue to be allowed, but we need to see how each country will manage the fact that Cyprus has entered the red category of ECDC. "Some countries may do nothing, some may tighten protocols or controls. However, we will have to wait for what happens in the next few days," said Mr Perdios. He also mentioned that the country's plans for promotion and more generally the effort to build our name for the future do not change, since it has 18 months of difficulties, but also because the pandemic has shown that everything changes quickly, but also often.
Measures in hotels
Shortly after the news of the degradation of Cyprus, PASYXE appealed to its members urgently to tighten the measures in its member hotels, arguing that only with a collective effort will we face the new wave. In the letter to its members it states that "following the latest developments from the outbreak of outbreaks affecting epidemiological indicators in our country", PASYXE lists the following suggestions/directions:
1. Members are encouraged to strictly and reverently observe the Destination Protocols, as well as the Health Protocols governing the operation of the Hotel Units.
2. They are invited to urge their staff to vaccinate them and, if not, to be required to provide negative crown test every 72 hours, as well as the instructions of the Ministry of Health for Safe Pass.
3. In addition, from 1/7/21, customers should be strictly checked, upon arrival, by authorized persons of each unit, presenting Safe Pass or the European Digital Certificate Covid (EUDCC) when approved for use and within the country.
"Your contribution and cooperation is highly necessary" concludes PASYXE's appeal.
