PROTECTION MEASURES AGAINST BURGLARIES AND THEFTS DURING THE SUMMER SEASON

18/7/21 - From Cyprus Police

At this time, which is considered a high-risk period for burglaries and thefts since many of our fellow citizens may be on summer vacation, the Police recall some useful advice, both for your own protection and for your property.

Do not leave any signs that betray your absence. Make sure that doors, windows and other access points to the home, such as external gate doors, are well locked and secured.

Work closely with neighbours you trust to monitor each other's homes. It is good for your relatives and persons of your trust to have access to the house and to supervise it at regular intervals.

Do not leave the keys in the locks or even on the inside of the door.

Do not leave exposed money, gold, important documents or other valuables and, where possible, keep them in a safe.

Also, if you have an alarm system and a CLOSED CIRCUIT TV, make sure that you have turned it on.

We also recall the dangers of publishing personal data on social media platforms. Posts, which leave clues about the absence of the house should be avoided, because the owners target themselves and thus become targets of burglars.

Therefore, in case anything suspicious comes to your attention, please immediately inform the nearest Police Station or the Citizen's Contact Line on 1460 or contact 112/199.

Do not forget that the Police are next to you and are also taking preventive measures to prevent serious offences.
