PAPHOS - INSTEAD OF GREEN POINTS, THEY FLYTIP IN OPEN SPACES

Filenews 23 July 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

A major problem is still created in Paphos by the arbitrary disposal of aggregates in every open area of the city and the peri-urban area. Citizens complain that similar unacceptable practices are recorded in many parts of the province, demonstrating that the changes initiated with the operation of the Green Points have not yet become the property of a large part of the citizens.

As a result of the current situation, significant pollution is recorded in many parts of Paphos province from the deposition of aggregates, mainly prunings and household appliances.

The problem has already been documented by environmentalists, who also complain that the phenomenon of pollution by the unconscious and in the unique environmental value peninsula of Akamas is particularly acute. Visitors, environmentalists complain, create "mountains" of garbage during their visits to various parts of Akamas, thus creating a danger to the ecosystem of the region and unacceptable image to the many tourists who visit the area.

The important dimensions of the problem were also the reason that the Municipality of Paphos recently made new recommendations to the public to use the Green Point of Muttallos/Chlorakas.
