NINE DECISIONS BY THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS

At today's meeting, the Council of Ministers discussed and/or took decisions, inter alia, on the following issues.

The relevant Ministries have been informed and decisions have been taken regarding the implementation of the decisions of the meeting of 12 July at the Presidential Palace on fire prevention and suppression. Among other things, the Council of Ministers approved the immediate activation of the "ZINON" coordination centre as a crisis management centre. The Cabinet will continue to monitor the matter.

At the same time, it approved the granting of planning permission to the Omonia Nicosia Association in order to proceed with the creation of a sports centre on the premises of the Association in Yeri.

On the recommendation of the Ministry of the Interior, it was decided to issue a decree establishing a White Zone for the area of the Limassol Centre Area Under Amendment.

On the recommendation of the Ministry of interior, the Council of Ministers decided to grant conditional planning permission by way of derogation from the provisions of the Policy Statement, for Theme Park – Specific Development of Recreation/Entertainment Facilities - Multi-Sports Entertainment Centre, with supportive use of a 200-bed hotel, in the communities of Agios Ioannis Malountas and Menikos in Nicosia province.

The Council of Ministers decided to adopt a proposal from the Ministry of the Interior concerning the National Plan "SALAMIS" to strengthen the security framework of the organized beaches.

The Council of Ministers, after which it was informed by the Ministry of Tourism, authorised the Deputy Minister of Tourism as in cooperation with other relevant Ministries and Ministries of State to carry out a feasibility and costing study for the exploitation of the vessel Kate II as a historical exhibit. [This is the abandoned boat of Glafcos Clerides which is being saved from the scrapheap]

The Council of Ministers approved the plan to support the wine sector proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment.

The Council of Ministers approved the proposal of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order on the detention area for children aged 16-21 who are convicted by the children's court of offences they committed before they reach the age of 18 so that their detention is in line with existing laws and the child-friendly justice system.

The Council of Ministers approved the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the signing of a General Protocol of Cooperation between the General Secretariat for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus and the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
