KAROUSOS - THE NICOSIA-PALECHORI MOTORWAY WILL IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE RESIDENTS

The start of the project concerning the Nicosia - Palechori motorway is expected in 2022 and the estimated construction cost is €61m. + VAT, said the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos adding that this much-anticipated project is expected to upgrade the villages of the region and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.

In a greeting at the Cherry Festival event in Platanistasa, the Minister said that this project has been announced by the President of the Republic and falls within the strategic planning of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.

He said the implementation of the project would facilitate accessibility to Palechori and other communities in the region, but also further west, to Mitseros, Agia Marina, Xyliato and to the communities of Pitsilia, improving travel time, travel costs and road safety conditions.

Another project, he continued, which has been scheduled for implementation and which has been described as a project of significant public interest for the development and revitalization of mountain areas is the Astromeritis – Evrychos motorway, which will start from the existing Troodos road, south of Astromeritis and end at the junction to Kalopanagiotis – Kykkos.

The motorway will be 4 lanes and will include, among other things, 1 level node, 4 aboveground and underground crossings and 1 terminal roundabout. The length of the motorway is 11.3 km and the budget amounts to €70 million plus VAT. The project announcement is scheduled to take place around the end of 2021.

At the same time, at the local level, the Minister said, the call for tenders for the project concerning the road Fterikosdi – Alonas – Lystysou – Chandrias is being promoted. Around the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022, the announcement of the first part of the project concerning the road Fterikosdi-Alon is planned.

As you can see, he noted, these important projects, which local communities have been awaiting for decades, in conjunction with the Housing Policy Plan announced by the Ministry of the Interior, are expected to contribute to the revitalization of the areas, the reduction of urbanity and the stay of local residents in their communities, while offering them a better level of service and road safety.
