Filenews 1 July 2021
The first target set by the Ministry of Health for vaccination with at least the 1st dose of 65% of the population that can be vaccinated within the 1st half of the year has been achieved.
With the proportion of the population receiving the 1st dose of licensed vaccines reaching 64.6%, and the percentage of fully vaccinated at 50.2%, the effort is intensifying to achieve higher vaccination coverage in the coming months, which will bring multiple social and economic benefits for the whole of society.
In relation to vaccination coverage by age group, by 30 June at ages:
18-19 at least 28.5% was vaccinated with the 1st dose,
20-29 age group 36.5%
30-39 age group 53.5%.
In the age groups of 40-49, 50-59 and 60-69, the vaccination rate is 73.4%, 72.3% and 82.2%respectively.
Finally, vaccination shielding reached a very high rate at older ages, with the rate being 91.7% for the 70-79 age group and 92.2%for people over 80. At the same time, yesterday the Vaccination Portal was opened for all people aged 16 and over. Yesterday, 3,085 appointments were scheduled with 2,200 arranged to vaccinate people aged 16 and 17.
By Province, until 30 June, Paphos still has the lead with 73.8%, followed by Famagusta and Nicosia provinces with 65.9% and 65.5% respectively. In Limassol Province 62% have received at least the 1st dose, and in Larnaca Province 60.1%.
Given that the virus mutates and the new strains are more aggressive, causing much increased transmission and more serious disease, especially among unvaccinated individuals, the need for further vaccination is created in order to be more immune to the population and to limit to the greatest extent possible the spread of the disease.
This objective focuses on the government's efforts in order to protect Public Health and, by extension, to create the conditions that will primarily lead to the citizens and businesses of Cyprus returning to normality safely and at the same time make our country a safe destination for foreigners.
