Cypriot citizens are at the forefront of the belief that corruption has become more widespread in the last twelve months.
In particular, Global Corruption Barometer shows that EU citizens are well aware of corruption throughout the European area. 62% of the 40,000 survey participants believe government corruption is a big problem in their country.
As for the belief that corruption has risen in the last year, Cypriots replied that it has increased by 65% and are at the top of the relevant measurement by far from the second Slovenians who follow with 51%. On the other side are the Finns with 16% and the Estonians with 18%.
Also when asked whether they think the government is corrupt, Cypriots answered 88% . This is where the Croats and Bulgarians who responded positively outnumber us, reaching 92% and 90% respectively.
The identity of the investigation
With over 40,000 participants in 27 countries across the European Union, the Global Corruption Barometer (GCB) – EU presents one of the largest, most detailed public opinion datasets on people's views and experiences on corruption and corruption in the region. The survey was carried out between October and December 2020.
