INSTEAD OF BONBONNIERES AT A WEDDING, THEY GAVE TURTLES TO GUESTS

 Filenews 16 June 2021

Intense reactions have been caused by the placing of animals as gifts at events such as weddings, baptisms, folk markets, dances, etc., with the Party for Animals expressing its indignation at this strange phenomenon, which is increasingly observed in recent years. Recently, as the Animal Party reports, wedding instead of bonbonières offered... Turtles to the guests.

Speaking to eyenews, President of the Party for Animals, Kyriakos Kyriakou, said that citizens should understand that animals are empathy and that they are not objects, while expressing his dissatisfaction with the increase in this unpleasant phenomenon, which is observed from the popular markets (where animals are sold) to all kinds of events.

He added that animals are not objects, but are living organisms that feel both pain and lack of food, water and deprivation of their freedom. "Let us leave them in the animal kingdom away from our own events to live as they should and deserve," he noted.

Mr Kyriakou stressed that the Cyprus Animal Party has no executive power and called on the competent authorities (Veterinary Services) to take up the matter, making the necessary enlightenment of citizens clear, making clear their responsibilities towards the Animal Welfare and Protection Act. He also pointed out that the police need support for Animals, as it is understaffed, with all that this entails for animal welfare.

"Certainly more stringent and more drastic measures or more enlightenment are needed by the competent authorities," reiterated Mr Kyriakou, stressing that he would take further action on the matter, going as far as the President of the Republic, in order to submit the positions of the Party on Animals.
