Serious dimensions are acquired in Paphos by the phenomenon of begging, since, in addition to the continuous action of certain individuals in central areas of the city, cases of entry of these individuals into dwellings have been recorded in recent times.
The Police call on citizens to be particularly careful in the sight of these individuals and to immediately call the authorities to prevent unpleasant surprises to unsuspecting residents.
The warning comes after a case in which a woman, who had been repeatedly spotted begging outside supermarkets, bakeries and fruit shops on Ellados Avenue, was spotted inside a residence. In fact, according to the Police, the owner of the house was in bed for midday rest when she was in a state of terrorism when she noticed the unknown woman, who then fled when the owner of the house started calling for help.
The same woman is alleged to have been arrested once by the police and fined €85, but has not complied.
The Police are appealing to citizens to be cautious about begging. It also calls on citizens to be wary of approaches from unknown persons and not to observe a blind attitude of blind trust towards anyone who is unknown. The deft, warns the Paphos Police, often choose to visit residences where elderly persons or persons are staying in need of assistance in their movement, either for the sale of objects or by asking for financial assistance with similar false pretences.
