PROPOSAL FOR SAFEPASS OUTDOORS - DECISION IN NEXT FEW DAYS LIKELY

Filenews 29 June 2021 - by Marilena Panagi

SafePass will probably return to the outdoor areas of the food premises, and the programme of free rapid diagnosis tests in the general population seems to be on the table, so as to indirectly put pressure on vaccination.

But nothing is a given at the moment since the Government will take its decisions in the next 24 hours although it is not yet clear whether any incentives or disincentives for vaccinated and unvaccinated decisions will result from the convergence of an inter-ministerial committee or from an extraordinary informal Cabinet.

The Government's intentions do not appear to include material incentives such as those announced yesterday by the Government in Greece, but it is not out of the question that some "privileges" will be given to vaccinated people. However, while during the meeting with the scientists there was no intention to "punish" unvaccinated persons either, in his later statements the President of the Republic when asked to answer a question as to whether there is a thought of bringing a special wristband to the unvaccinated, he replied "we will think about it" having previously clarified that "the right not to vaccinate is a given".

From the point of view of the scientists, as reported by the 'F', no specific suggestions were made for incentives or disincentives, but most of the members of the EES who participated in the meeting were rather opposed to the implementation of punitive measures and emphasised better informing citizens about the benefits of vaccination.

During the meeting, President of the Republic, after being informed by the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the new epidemiological data, clarified the government's position and the request of some of the scientists to grant them "legal immunity" in order to be exempted from any civil actions registered in the courts by citizens and related to the Decrees and restrictions applied in the previous period, saying that this cannot happen.
