FROM TODAY, I-JUSTICE PILOT COMMENCES

Filenews 29 June 2021 - by Michalis Hatzivasilis

After a series of postponements for practical and other reasons, the pilot application of i-justice begins today and extends until Friday 30 July 2021, followed by the decision to formally implement the system.

Initially the i-justice would apply on 18 January 2021, but since then it has been postponed three more times, sometimes for practical reasons and sometimes because lawyers reacted because of the charging costs of electronic transactions. Recently the Cyprus Bar Association and the Ministry of Justice had a meeting on the subject, but there was no conclusion, so the lawyers as a sign of goodwill agreed to start the pilot implementation of i-justice.

In fact, the Association invited its members to use the system in accordance with the instructions issued to date by both the Supreme Court and the GPA. "In this regard, it is important that lawyers use the upper time frame in the context of the pilot application of i-justice in order to resolve any difficulties and/or questions arising with a view to their readiness with a view to the formal implementation of e-Justice for its proper, prompt and effective functioning," it states.

Through i-justice electronic documents can be registered in the Nicosia District Court, Civil Jurisdiction, Bankruptcy Applications, General Applications, Debt Waiver Orders, Registration of Aliens, Bankruptcy Notice Decisions, Requisition, Companies, Referrals, Personal Repayment Plan. In the Larnaca District Court, electronic documents relating to the Civil Jurisdiction will be registered for bankruptcy applications, General Applications, Debt Waiver Orders, Registration of Foreign Decisions, Bankruptcy Notices, Requisition, Companies, Referrals, Personal Repayment Plan. In the Famagusta District Court Civil Jurisdiction, lawsuits will be registered electronically, while in the Administrative Court Review Jurisdiction, Appeals.

According to the Supreme Court, registrations made by external users, in the Courts and Registers mentioned above during the above period, will form part of the electronic file of each case, to which they will relate.
