PCR OR RAPID TEST FOR CHILDREN OVER 6 YEARS OF AGE ARE REQUESTED BY THE TURKISH CYPRIOTS AT THE CROSSINGS

 Filenews 6 June 2021

A PCR or antigen test for children over 6 years of age is requested at the roadblock checkpoints by the "police" for crossings to the occupied territories.

Asked about the issue, the head of the Technical Committee on Health, Jenk Shoydan, said that each side applies the rules that apply to it. On the T/C side, arrivals and transits of children are requested – as he said – negative PCR or antigen test for children over 6 years of age.

Mr. Shoydan gave as an example countries, such as Germany and Canada, where the same is requested, namely PCR or antigen tests for children over 6 years of age, but also Portugal where this applies to children even under 2 years of age.

Yéni Duzen's website also mentions "problems with children's transits". As he writes, in the "south" for children under the age of 12 there is no condition of diagnostic testing, while in the "north" they have set an age limit of 6 years for a prerequisite test.

In the meantime, a communication from the 'Ministry of Health' in the occupied territories today reminds us that for transits to free areas SMS cannot be used with the result of PCR. The crossings, it is added, will only be made with a document resulting from the 7-day English or Turkish diagnostic test.
