HUNDREDS OF TRAFFIC OFFENCES IN JUST A FEW HOURS

Cyprus traffic checks were carried out last night and in the early hours of today, in the context of the consolidation of road safety and a sense of responsibility towards road users, as well as the prevention of serious and fatal road collisions.

During the traffic checks, in the city of Limassol and especially on the coastal front, the members of the Traffic Police made 137 complaints concerning various traffic violations. Seven motorcycles and one car were also detained for possible mechanical and other modifications. The drivers of the seized vehicles did not have a driving licence and a safety certificate, while five of those vehicles were declared stationary.

There were also 671 complaints about various traffic offences, 158 of which involved exceeding the speed limit and 38 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In addition, in the context of the above checks, Cyprus patrol cover was carried out in various areas in order to prevent burglaries and thefts.

Police controls to combat all forms of illegality continue unabated.
