CONCERTS/MASS GATHRINGS - POLICE CHECKS ON THE WAY

Filenews 9 June 2021 - by Michalis Hatzivasilis

The vertical reduction in crown cases has also brought an adjustment of the measures by the Police, which is now focusing on mass events and the gathering of citizens, to determine whether the relevant protocols are being complied with.

Several police officers who were seconded to assist in the checks of the infectious dialysis orders have returned to their posts, while the burden of the checks today fell on the Crime Prevention Units. Complaints from citizens every day have been reduced to the fingers of one hand, indicative of the relaxation of measures. The few citizens' complaints relate to the non-use of masks in shopping malls or in vehicles when they are not family. Complaints of premises are even fewer, as controls have also been reduced, but generally there is compliance by entrepreneurs.

The Police have differentiated their measures, their representative Christos Andreou told "F", adding that it is now giving weight to where there is an increased epidemiological risk. From 10 June when the curfew ends, the work of the Police will become even easier, since it will focus on the observance of measures in the various premises and especially in the gathering places of citizens. Special attention will be paid to the events that began to be planned from this month, and especially to the concerts of Greek artists and theatres.

Already, according to information provided by the "F", a list of the events scheduled for June has been forwarded to the Police Directorates in order to take appropriate measures by the local police authorities to implement the healthy protocols. As Mr Andreou explained, although concerts are allowed at the moment, attendees should wear masks, keep their distance and remain seated. They are forbidden to dance and generally stand. Local OPE controls have already been strengthened, and checks on the roads for vehicle passengers will not stop and whether they wear their masks when they are not members of the same family.

In the meantime, there is concern about the thousands of out-of-court cases issued under the Infectious Diseases Act that remain unpaid. These out-of-court cases involve around €3.5 million and if criminal files are formed and registered in the courts, then the Courts will be drowned out by thousands of cases, which will burden the already burdened system with delays in hearing cases.
