58 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, WEDNESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 2 June 2021, one person died of COVID-19 disease, while 58 are new cases.

specifically:

  • One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 361.
  • 57 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 22 of whom are in serious condition.

  • A total of 39,568 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 58 (positivity rate: 0.15%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 72,573.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Woman, aged 64, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 360, of which:

  • 240 men (66%), and
  • 121 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 57 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 22 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 22 patients in serious condition, 14 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and six are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 39,568 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,813 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 34,755 using the antigen rapid test, 58 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 17 cases from 210 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases from 2,388 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 15 cases from 1,879 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 1 case of 168 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 349 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 20 cases from 34,406 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 161 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 7 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos, Tylliria.
