VACCINE CARD MESS

Filenews 8 May 2021 - by Marlena Panagi

Disruption and confusion among citizens, who from Monday need to present their vaccination card as part of the implementation of CoronaPass was caused yesterday.

The vaccination card, at least in the case of one of the four vaccines administered, is called into question because the Bar Codes, which normally had to accompany each dose of vaccine administered, are not affixed to it. The President of the Cyprus Bar Association has already mentioned the possibility of forgery of these cards, since the serial number of each batch is written by the individual vaccinator. Mr Clerides stressed that since there is no stamp and a clear signature, "the document becomes inadequate".

The finding that special films were not affixed to vaccination cards yesterday forced hundreds of citizens to seek answers, and in addition to the strong concerns as to whether these cards would be accepted by police officers when carrying out the checks, there were several who expressed fears that they would then not be able to travel abroad, as their cards would not bear the insignia bearing the corresponding certificates of other European countries.

On the part of the Ministry of Health, the matter was investigated preliminarily and as "F" is informed, the non-pasting of the relevant adhesive tapes in the case of Pfizer vaccines is due to the fact that the company does not supply the competent Services with the specific stickers that are normally affixed to the cards of those citizens vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

However, as far as the course of the vaccination programme is concerned, yesterday there was a problem with the electronic vaccination portal. The continuing problems have forced the Audit Office to proceed with an investigation of its own motion. The Vaccination Portal will cost around €300,000.
