The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that tonight [7 May], the castles of Paphos and Larnaca are illuminated in red as part of the World Day of Thalassemia, which is celebrated on 8 May, with the aim of raising society's awareness of the problems and peculiarities faced by our fellow human beings suffering from this disease.
The Department of Antiquities, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works in this way contributes to the effort of the Cyprus Anti-Anaemia Association, in order to further develop the treatment of people with thalassemia and to address the serious challenges that in the days of the pandemic have unfortunately multiplied.
The Department of Antiquities, by illuminating our monuments, calls on the whole society to support efforts for blood donation, giving life and protection to our fellow human beings. Our cultural heritage is illuminated for the ultimate good of life, equality and solidarity.
