324 NEW CASES AND FOUR DEATHS, FRIDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, May 7, 2021:

  • Four people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 332.
  • 237 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 59 of whom are in serious condition. The median age of the hospitalized is 58.6 years.
  • A total of 56,420 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 324 (positivity rate: 0.57%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 68,766.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The four people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 69, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 72, with a history of vaccination (1st dose), who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 67, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 76, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 332, of which:

  • 219 men (66%), and
  • 113 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 237 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 59 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 59 patients in serious condition, 30 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 27 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 56,420 diagnoses currently carried out, 5,920 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 50,500 using the antigen rapid test, 324 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 46 cases from 795 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 1 case of 2,183 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 63 cases from 2,572 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 344 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 9 cases from 369 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 198 cases from 50,131 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 26 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
