POLICE - 321 TRUCK DRIVER OFFENCES IN ONE WEEK

Following checks on 479 vehicles, of which 374 trucks and 105 buses were carried out between 10 and 16 May, no infringements were found by bus drivers, and a total of 321 infringements were detected by lorry drivers.

According to a police statement, among the violations found, 230 involved the use of a tachograph, 11 truck drivers were found to be violating the speed limit and another 8 drivers were driving their truck without carrying a seatbelt. It was also found that of the 374 trucks checked, eight carried worn tyres.

As specified, the checks were carried out with the ultimate aim of reducing serious and fatal injuries in road traffic collisions and during their performance were checked, inter alia, the documents of drivers and vehicles, vehicle speed, speed limitation devices, tachographs (analog and digital devices), the mechanical condition of vehicles, and driving/work hours.

It is also stated that the checks were carried out in the context of the week of enlightenment and checks of trucks and buses and at the same time were carried out at pan-European level, within the framework of the cooperation of the Cyprus Police with the European Road Police Network ROADPOL.
