135 NEW CASES, WEDNESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 19 May 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded. At the same time, 135 are the new cases.

specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death on COVID-19 were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 348.
  • 148 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 47 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 44,312 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 348, of which:

  • 231 men (66%), and
  • 117 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 148 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 47 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 47 patients in serious condition, 29 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 14 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 44,312 diagnoses currently carried out, 5,015 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 39,279 using the antigen rapid test, 135 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 22 cases from 441 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 2 cases of 2,047 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 37 cases out of 1,993 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 289 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 7 cases from 1,021 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 59 cases from 38,276 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 245 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
