Filenews 5 May 2021
Three scenarios as to whether or not to remove lockdown are on the Cabinet table, which may decide at today's session.
The first scenario (allegedly the most likely) concerns the return to measures of the pre-26 April period, the second concerns the extension of the universal prohibition for another week and the third, the implementation of an interim solution with the reopening of specific sectors of trade and the economy in general and the return of pupils, at least some grades, to their classrooms. Given, however, that at least for high school students the margins are too narrow, as the exam period begins on 21 May, the options are rather very limited.
This time, in addition to epidemiological data, the psychology of citizens and of course the economy of the country, the upcoming elections are also considered an important parameter for decision-making. Moreover, the intentions of the DISY have been clear since last week when it lobbied for concrete easing in relation to the original measures announced. Pressure seems to be exerted on the part of the other parties to ensure that there are changes that will allow the election campaign to run as smoothly as possible.
The Scientific Advisory Committee was yesterday called upon to take a position and it is expected that early this morning, the Minister of Health will have in his hands the recommendations of each of the members of the EES. But everything will be finalised at the Cabinet meeting. If the interim solution is to be finalised, the content will be finalised by the Government since everything will depend on the positions of all the ministers involved and not just on the proposals presented by the Minister of Health.
At the same time, with the decision-making processes in relation to the measures, the process of how to implement (if this is decided) the measure of presenting a vaccination certificate or negative test for citizens' movements is under way. It is recalled that the announcement of such an intention had provoked serious reactions and by lawyers it had been classified as an unconstitutional measure.
