NEW ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN CALLED STREETS FOR LIFE

Cyprus participates in the actions for the UN World Road Safety Week 2021, with a 20-day information campaign focusing on speed, launched on Friday 14 May 2021, refers to a communication from the Cyprus Road Safety Council in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.

As the GIP broadcasts, the week of 17-23 May has been declared by the UN as the World Road Safety Week for 2021 with the slogan "Streets for Life" and all international actions and related information are published on Social Media under the hashtag #Love30.

The information campaign in Cyprus will be carried out while using the hashtags #Love30 and #ΔρόμοιΓιαΌλους via the pages of the Road Safety Council on Facebook (www.facebook.com/cyroadsafety), Instagram (www.instagram.com/cyroadsafety) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/cyroadsafety) and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ec.cyprus) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/eucyprus).

The communication states that the campaign aims to promote the reduction of speed limits to 30 km/h in areas where there is increased interaction of vehicles and vulnerable users or heavy pedestrian and child traffic.

For the UN World Road Safety Week, the Cyprus Road Safety Council in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Cyprus has planned a series of actions focusing on the issue of speed in residential areas, with the aim of informing, educating, raising awareness and enlightenment of all age groups and road users.

Actions include the promotion of enlightening and informative material on television and social media, prepared with the participation of Road Safety Ambassadors and Panikos Polykarpou, Rally Racing Champion and 2015 FIA Young Driver Excellence Academy graduate.

During the campaign, an online discussion will be organised by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus with the participation of distinguished personalities and experts from Cyprus and abroad and there will be a concerted effort to inform the public through all available communication channels from the relevant services and local bodies.
