CLARIFICATION ON NEW MEASURES wef 17 May

In the context of the timetable decided by the Council of Ministers for the gradual lifting of restrictions and the gradual restart of the economy and social activity, the Ministry of Health recalls that from Monday, 17 May, the following shall enter into force:

The presence of believers during the church and/or other forms of religious worship is permitted, as long as the simultaneous presence of persons does not exceed 30% of the capacity of the place of religious worship.

Weddings, baptisms and funerals with a maximum number of 200 persons may be performed, provided that the completeness within the venue where the ceremony is held does not exceed 30% of its capacity.

Meals and/or dinners are held only outdoors and outdoors of events and hotels/tourist accommodations with a maximum number of 200 persons and provided that the attendees are seated. It is understood that the health protocol for the holding of social events is applicable.

Conferences and trade fairs may be held, with a occupancy not exceeding 30%of the capacity of the premises in which they take place.

Casinos are allowed to operate with a occupancy not exceeding 30%of the capacity of the premises, in compliance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.

Outdoor and closed theatres, amphitheatres, cinemas and performing arts and theatres with a maximum number of 50 spectators or with a occupancy of 30% of the capacity of the premises in enclosed spaces and 50% of the capacity of the premises outdoors are allowed.

Children's playgrounds, amusement parks and theme parks may only be operated outdoors and without social events, on the basis of the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.

Private service undertakings and the state and wider government sector , with the exception of essential services , work remotelyThe physical presence of workers not exceeding 50% of the total number of employees shall be permitted. It is understood that health protocols are strictly observed in the workplace.

It is understood that 50% of people working with a physical presence must undergo a weekly rapid antigen detection test. Workers who have been vaccinated at least with the 1st dose of the vaccine and who have been vaccinated for at least 3 weeks shall be excluded. For example, if 20 people work in an enterprise/organisation/part of the public/wider public sector, 12 of whom have received the 1st dose of the vaccine, the obligation to check weekly is for the other 8 persons (4+4).

The travel ban runs from 12 midnight until 5 a.m. the next day

  1. The production of SafePass by persons aged 12 years and over is mandatory in case of inspection by authorised officers, in the following premises/enterprises:
    • Indoors of religious worship
    • Indoor theatres, cinemas and performing arts or theatres
    • Shopping centres and retail businesses of more than 500 m2 marketing a wide range of products
    • Ceremonies such as weddings, baptisms and funerals, as long as they are held indoors, such as places of religious worship, Town Halls, Provincial Administrations, etc.
    • Indoor gyms, dance schools and other sports schools, as well as specific sports facilities defined by guidelines of the Cyprus Sports Organisation
    • Nursing homes, shelters for the elderly, shelters for chronically ill people and other closed structures
    • Hotels and tourist accommodation for accommodation/overnight purposes and for the use of indoor areas and infrastructure
    • Pre-election gatherings in indoor theatre/amphitheatres and dining areas
    • Conferences and trade fairs held indoors
    • casino.
  2. SafePass production is not mandatory for going to the following areas:
    • Hairdressers, beauty salons
    • Outdoor dining areas (restaurants, cafes, bars, snack bars, etc.)
    • Courtyards site of places of religious worship
    • Outdoor theatres, cinemas and performing arts or theatres
    • Banks
    • Departments/Services for the public, public and wider public sectors
    • Gambling and betting businesses
    • Popular markets, food retailers, supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, fish shops, fruit shops, mini-markets, kiosks, pharmacies
    • Outdoor gathering places, i.e. parks and linear parks, beaches, squares, dams, excursion areas, marinas, zoos, parks and nature trails.
