MORE THAN 53million DOSES HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED IN THE EU

 Filenews 18 May 2021

With the vaccination campaign now evolving rapidly, more than 200 million people are in the process of being vaccinated.   Almost 53million doses of vaccines against Covid-19 have so far been administered in the European Union, according to today's count by the French Agency.

At least €200.11 million will be used to fund the project.  Doses have been allocated to approximately 148 million. people in the 27 member states, i.e. 33.2% of the EU population, according to a count based on data from official sources on Tuesday at around 11:30 Greek time.

In total, at least €52,90 million has been used to fund the project.  Around 11.8% of the population have been fully vaccinated (with both doses required or with johnson & johnson's monodosic vaccine.

Malta stands out with around 32.5% of its population having already been fully vaccinated, while 64% of its inhabitants have already received at least one dose. On the other hand, Bulgaria is lagging behind: only 10.2% of its inhabitants have received a dose of vaccine, and barely 6% have been fully vaccinated.

In France, €29,63 million has been allocated to the project. with doses of around 20,66 million, ie 30.6% of the population. Of these, 9,13 million people have been fully vaccinated (13.5% of the population).

Germany has given at least one dose to 36.8% of its population and 11.1% of Germans have been fully vaccinated.

For comparison, more than 47.7% of the U.S. population has received at least one dose, while 37.4% of Americans have been fully vaccinated. Around 54% of Britons have received at least one dose, with almost 30% of the UK population vaccinated.

The EU, a key centre of global vaccine production, has exported almost as many doses of covid vaccines prepared on its territory as it has kept for its own needs.

Brussels put in place at the end of January a mechanism to approve vaccine exports to control trade with a country where the health situation is best judged and the distributions of the AstraZeneca laboratory accused of not meeting its commitments to the 27 for the benefit of other countries, notably the United Kingdom.

From the beginning of February to 11 May, 27 gave the 'green light' to 941 export requests, for 204 million doses to 45 countries and regions (Hong Kong, Chile, Canada, Israel, Turkey...) according to European Commission data.

The EU has also supplied the US, a country that is also a major producer of vaccines but exports almost no instalments, leading to calls from Brussels for more "reciprocity".

To date, only one request for export of vaccines – AstraZeneca, to Australia – has been rejected.
