FIRE DEPARTMENT DEALS WITH 261 FIRES IN 24 HOURS

The Fire Department from 06.00 on 1 May 2021 until 06.00 on 2 May 2021 responded to 272 calls for assistance, 261 fires, 8 special services and 3 false calls.

Fire calls are broken down as follows:

In the previous 24 hours 30/4 – 1/5 the Fire Department received 128 calls about fires.

The most serious calls for the 24 hours and which part of them have been announced via Social Media were:

  • Response at 09.30 in a ground floor apartment in Deryneia where the Famagusta Fire Station responded and which suffered extensive damage. There was a rescue of a dog that was inside.
  • Response to a fire in the riverbed in the village of Isla with which the Nicosia Stations and the Department of Forests responded with a burnt area of one hectare of wild vegetation and eucalyptus trees.
  • Response at 15.16 for a fire in Latsia where the Nicosia Stations and the Department of Forests responded with a burnt area of 7 hectares of dry grasses and wild vegetation and precaution from the firefighting forces of industrial premises.
  • Response at 15.44 from Paphos Station to a livestock premises of 20 x 20 meters.  From the fire collapsed much of the roof and burned 20 sheep and hay bales. Cause generator overheating tangent with small materials.
  • Response at 04.16 from Nicosia Stations to a ground floor house in Strovolos. The living room of the house was damaged by the fire, while the entire house was affected by the smoke. Two people were transferred to The Yen. Nicosia Hospital with respiratory problems and burns. Cause it was a lit candle.

The remaining fires mainly concerned the burning of dry grasses, the burning of waste materials, and refuse containers which caused slight damage to various other materials and premises.
