Epidemiological indicators illustrating the course of the pandemic in the National Report of the last 14 days up to and including 25 May show a marked improvement.
Among the most important indicators that showed improvement are the average diagnoses, patient admissions to COVID-19 clinics and the cumulative incidence by Province.
At the same time, the positivity rate from the Ministry of Health's rapid antigen testing program has decreased in the last week from 0.2% to 0.1%.
Per Province the positivity rate remained stable at 0.2% in Limassol, Larnaca and Famagusta. In Nicosia the positivity rate remained stable at 0.1% and in Paphos it fell from 0.1% to 0.0%. The positivity rate on nursing homes (0.1%).
The cumulative impact shows a significant decrease both in Cyprus and in the Provinces individually.
Famagusta: from 546/100,000 to 327,2/100,000
Larnaca: from 394.6/100,000 to 200/100,000
Limassol: from 464.8/100,000 to 242/100,000
Nicosia: from 407,6/100,000 to 199,5/100,000
Paphos: from 294.5/100,000 to 119.5/100,000
Cyprus: from 431.6/100.000 to 218.6/100.000
The R figure is close to 0.5.
In summary, the following elements:
As of 25 May 2021, 70,907 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Republic of Cyprus, with 357 deaths due to COVID-19 (COVID-19 mortality: 0.5%).
• The cumulative incidence of 14 days of COVID-19 (14-day diagnosed cases per 100,000 inhabitants) is 218.6.
• In the last 14 days (12 - 25 May) 1,941 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded:
o The median age of COVID-19 cases was 33 years (Intra-fourth-quarter range: 23-47 years), 53.2% for men (n= 1,032) and 46.8% for women (n=908), while for 1 case the information was not available at present.
o Based on epidemiological history, 2.3% (n=44) were cases with a recent travel history, while 97.7% (n=1.897) were for domestic transmission cases.
• On 25 May 2021, 110 people with COVID-19 (diagnosis until 25 May) were hospitalized (based on registered data including those discharged, transferred or died on that day). Their median age was 62 years (Intra-fourth-quarter range: 48 – 70 years), with 65.5% (n=72) for men and 36.4% (n=40) for people from Nicosia province. Overall, 67 (60.9%) people with COVID-19 who were hospitalized reported underlying diseases.
• According to the registered data, 30 people (diagnosis until 25 May) were in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) - 22 were rescued. The median age of COVID-19 patients in ICU was 67 years (Endo-fourth-molecular range: 46-70 years), while 21 cases (70%) men. A total of 17 people (56.7%) ICU had underlying diseases.
• In the last 14 days, 86,043 molecular tests (PCRs) (9,689.5 per 100,000 population) and 739,607 antigen rapid tests (83,289.1 per 100,000 population) have been performed.
