 Filenews 21 May 2021

Epidemiological data on the pandemic until 18 May was published by the Ministry of Health. According to the national report, there is a large decrease in all indicators, while in the Provinces the cumulative impact records a significant decrease. In addition, weekly rapid test data show that the positivity rate has decreased in all provinces, and that the situation in hospitals has improved.

In detail, the following are highlighted from the national report:

According to the Ministry, in general the picture is quite good. There is a large drop in all indicators (mobile average of 7-day diagnoses, cumulative incidence of 14 days and daily number of admissions/hospitalizations).

The cumulative incidence now moves below 500/100,000 pancyprian (limit for deep red during ECDC) and in particular is 431.6/100,000 (compared to 689.3/100,000 in the previous period). In the Provinces the cumulative impact also records a significant decrease:

Famagusta: from 768.9/100,000 reduced to 546/100,000

Larnaca: from 667.8/100,000 reduced to 394.6/100,000

Limassol: from 683.9/100.000 reduced to 464.8/100.000

Nicosia: from 675.8/100.000 reduced to 407.6/100.000

Paphos: from 507.3/100.000 reduced to 294.5/100.000

The weekly positivity rate according to the Department of Health's rapid test program has been moving from last week to close to 0.3%. In Cyprus, the positivity rate fell from 0.6% to 0.2%. In all Provinces the positivity rate has decreased:

Famagusta: from 0.6% to 0.2%

Larnaca: from 0.6% to 0.2%

Limassol: from 0.6% to 0.2%

Nicosia: from 0.5% to 0.1%

Paphos: from 0.4% to 0.1%.

Equally low remains the weekly positivity rate on nursing homes (~0.1%).

In hospitals, the situation is clearly improved, while in intensive care units, as long as there is no resurgence of virus transmission, the reduction will occur at a slower rate.
