77 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - THURSDAY [Paphos - no positive cases]

Two other people died due to coronavirus, while the number of new cases fell below 100 after several months, after reaching just 77.

Specifically, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Health:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 350.
  • 134 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 48 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 49,364 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 77 (positivity rate: 0.16%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 71,610.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Man, aged 97, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 89, who ended up in Larnaca General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 350, of which:

  • 232 men (66%), and
  • 118 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 134 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP Hospitals, 48 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 48 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 17 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 49,364 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,651 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 44,713 using the antigen rapid test, 77 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 15 cases from 484 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases from 1,953 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 11 cases from 1,803 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 4 cases from 300 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 7 cases from 635 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 37 cases out of 44,078 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 111 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
