260 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS, WEDNESDAY

Two other people died today due to coronavirus, while 260 new positive cases were announced.

Specifically, according to the Ministry of Health:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 341.
  • 173 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 56 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 54,816 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 260 (positivity rate: 0.47%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 70,358.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Woman, aged 82, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 47, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 341, of which:

  • 225 men (66%), and
  • 116 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.8 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 173 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 56 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 56 patients in serious condition, 29 are intubated, six are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 21 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 54,816 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,550 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 50,266 using the antigen rapid test, 260 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 94 cases from 579 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 2 cases from 1,778 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 51 cases from 1,694 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 5 cases from 286 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 9 cases from 742 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 99 cases from 49,524 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 213 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:
