165 NEW CASES, SUNDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 16 May 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded, while 165 are new cases of the disease.

specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 346.

  • 157 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 50 are in serious condition.

  • A total of 63,798 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 165 (positivity rate: 0.26%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 71,064.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 346, of which:

  • 229 men (66%), and
  • 117 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 157 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 50 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 50 patients in serious condition, 27 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 19 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 63,798 diagnoses currently carried out, 2,047 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 61,751 using the antigen rapid test, 165 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 23 cases from 433 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 868 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 19 cases from 364 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 437 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 114 cases from 61,314 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 234 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 148 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos, Tylliria.
