POSSIBLE AGE RESTRICTION FOR VACCINES RAISED -

 Filenews 14 April 2021

Intense but also "rich" was last night's teleconference of the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee, whose main topic of discussion was the issues that have arisen in recent times concerning the vaccines available for the crown and the progress of the implementation of the vaccination programme.

According to information provided by eyenews, members of the EES, with the aim of reducing the risk of serious complications, however rare they may be, to citizens who are vaccinated and to the general reluctance observed among citizens, have made clear suggestions for determining age restrictions. According to the same information, the table raised the possibility of stopping vaccinations of people under 59 years of age, as well as the possibility of a restriction to 40 years or less.

At the same time, during the teleconference, the scientists discussed additional proposals concerning aid and/or changes to the vaccination programme.

However, and since the majority of scientists were reluctant to take decisions at this time, it was decided to allow time pending new data from the European Medicines Agency, while at the same time the competent Cyprus Pharmacovigilance Authority was asked to inform about the data it has on vaccines.

The same information wants the Department of Health to disagree on the age restriction on vaccination, which scientists made clear Tuesday.

For their part, some members of the EES have proposed that a risk-benefit study be carried out with regard to vaccinations with the issue essentially remaining open. The European Medicines Agency is expected to have new data on countries' vaccination programmes by next Friday, but it remains unknown when it will be placed again.
