POSITIVITY RATE DOUBLES IN 2 WEEKS

A huge increase is observed in the positivity rate, both pancyprian and individual in the Provinces, according to the data recorded in the National Report on the coronavirus, over the last 14 days. In fact, in Nicosia and Larnaca the positivity rate is almost double over a two-week period.

Based on the Rapid Test Program of the Ministry of Health, the data by province are as follows:

  • Limassol: 1.3% this week from 0.9% on 18/4 and 0.9% on 11/4
  • Paphos: 1% this week from 0.7% on 18/4 and 0.6% on 11/4
  • Larnaca: 1.5% this week from 1.1% on 18/4 and 0.8% on 11/4
  • Famagusta: 0.9% this week from 0.7% on 18/4 and 0.6% on 11/4
  • Nicosia: 1.3% this week from 0.8% on 18/4 and 0.6% on 11/4
  • Cyprus: 1.3% this week from 0.9% on 18/4 and 0.7% on 11/4

Over 900 COVID incidents per 100 thousand inhabitants

The cumulative impact of 14 days is the highest recorded historically (937/100,000). In Limassol, the cumulative impact exceeds the limit of 1,000/100,000, while Larnaca and Nicosia approach this limit (991,9/100,000 and 915,1/100,000 respectively). There is an increasing trend in Famagusta and Paphos (672.8/100,000 and 627.9/100,000 respectively).

A positive sign is the steady trend shown in the cumulative impact of 14 days at the ages of 70 and over compared to younger age groups showing a significant increase, which also affects hospital admissions found under 60 years of age.

Hospitalizations

The mobile term for admissions and nurses shows an increasing trend (Figures 6a and 6b in the national report). The chart below shows the mobile average of imports showing a significant growth trend for Nicosia and less for Larnaca, while a stabilising trend is evident for Limassol.

The median age of covid ward nurses is 61 years, while the median age of patients hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit was 63 years.
