A letter to the Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedon, was sent by the Ministry of the Interior, inviting him to comply with the instructions for the restoration of property arbitrarily demolished by the municipality's garages. At the same time, it is stressed that for any future request of the Municipality for the lease of Turkish Cypriot property, it is now called upon to observe the legal procedures before making any intervention or construction of a project, on the property in question.
As stated in a statement by the Ministry of Public Health, despite the fact that we recognize the work done by the Municipality of Paphos, in the effort to improve the image of the city, to upgrade degraded areas, to improve public safety and to implement projects of general interest with remarkable and important results, following complaints the Minister of the Interior, within the framework of his responsibilities, called for an administrative investigation.
As a result of the investigation, findings and conclusions were drawn about circumvention of the application of the legislation governing the concession and management of the T/C properties in a particular case and a letter has been sent to the Mayor of Paphos.
In addition, it should be noted that in order to ensure ethics and good administration in all Provinces, from now on in the process of examining requests for the grant of T/C property, any representative of a Local Authority, or any legal or natural person, will not be allowed to participate when they are interested in the property under consideration/concession, in order to respect the principles of natural justice and in particular the principle of impartiality.
Finally, the investigation has confirmed the need to modernise the institutional framework governing the concession and management of T/C properties, for which the Minister of the Interior has already taken a decision and is in the process of discussing changes, through a series of proposals and measures to holistically address the many timeless problems.
